Standing Rules
THE NORTHERN DISTRICT of the FLORIDA SHUFFLEBOARD ASSOCIATION
AS OF March 19, 2011
1. The mission statement of the NDFSA is to promote, to improve, and to
preserve the game of shuffleboard as a wholesome recreational activity for
the citizens of Northern Florida.
2. All Northern District Florida Shuffleboard Association (NDFSA)
Tournaments shall make awards to four (4) places in Main Event and four
(4) places in Consolation.
3. The entry fee for all Northern District Florida Shuffleboard
Association tournaments shall be $5.00 per player. Of this amount, $75.00
will go to the Tournament Director and $25.00 to the assistant Tournament
Director if an assistant is used and if there are 45 teams or more.
However, when there are sixteen (16) teams or less, the Tournament
Director fee will be $50.00. (March 13, 2004) One dollar ($1.00) per
player will go to the Northern District Treasurer to be deposited in the
NDFSA Account. On line 8 of the Northern District Financial Report, one
dollar ($1.00) per player will go to the Host Club. The remainder, which
will appear on line 9, plus any sponsor money, will go for prize money and
will be distributed in close approximation to the following percentages:
Main Event: 20% – 17.5% – 15% – 12.5%. Consolation: 12.5% – 10% – 7.5% –
5%. All final amounts will be rounded off to the nearest whole dollar. The
Financial Report is the responsibility of the Hosting Club Treasurer.
4. The Hosting Club Treasurer will post a copy of the Financial Report
(Prize Money) by 12:00 Noon of the first day of the tournament
.
5. Prize money shall be distributed as in Paragraph 3 above at all NDFSA
Amateur tournaments. Any Amateur placing in Main Event or Consolation for
their first time playing in any Tournament shall receive a District
Amateur pin. (March 13, 2004)
6. All Northern District Amateur Tournaments will be played as Doubles.
7. The NDFSA Tournaments of Champions shall be non-walking singles with
two divisions of. Men’s and Ladies’. It shall be split into two
tournaments: one for Pros only and one for Amateurs only. All matches will
be two out of three 75 points games or 16 frames whichever comes first.
The Pro and Amateur Tournaments of Champion will be played at the same
location. These tournaments will be rotated on a yearly basis between a
club from Lake/Marion Counties and a club from the Volusia County.
Eligibility for NDFSA Tournament of Champions shall be as follows:
A. Northern District members holding lifetime eligibility to participate
in the Tournament of Champions because of a First Place Main Event win in
a District tournament or a State tournament in the Northern District prior
to the 1994-95 season, will be “Grand fathered”. “Grand fathered”
eligibility shall not be removed. First place winners in Northern District
tournaments or State tournaments played in the Northern District,
beginning with the 1994-95 season, will receive a five-year eligibility
beginning with the current season.
B. Placing 2nd, 3d, or 4th in the Main event, or 1st in Consolation, will
result in two year eligibility beginning with the current season. Placing
2nd, 3rd or 4th in the Consolation round will result in one- year
eligibility being the current year.
8. For the Tournaments of Champions, two (2) tournament directors will be
assigned as Directors at least for the first day of play. One (1) director
for PRO Men/Ladies and one (1) director for Amateur Men/Ladies
9. Master Pins will be awarded to the top eight (8) finishers in each
division of the Masters Tournaments. There is no requirement for the club
hosting the Masters tournaments to have a banquet at the end of the
tournament. However, in case when there is no banquet, a short ceremony
will be held after the completion of the Masters Tournaments to award the
Master Pins.
10. The Northern District Tournament Schedule for the 2006-2007 season
will be used as the fixed schedule for the 2007-2008 season and future
seasons.
Prior to the October meeting, the Northern District Tournament Director
will prepare a Proposed Tournament Schedule for the following season. At
the October meeting, the Northern District Tournament Director will
provide a copy of this Proposed Schedule to each Board Member and to each
Club President whose club sponsors or desires to sponsor one or more
Northern District Tournament for the following season.
Any club that sponsors one or more Northern District Tournament and
desires to change the dates of any of their tournaments, will have to do
so by contacting another club that will agree to change with them. After
the two club Presidents have agreed to change dates, the two club
Presidents or their representatives must sign an agreement to change the
dates. A copy of this agreement must be provided to the Northern District
Tournament Director no later than December 1. The Northern District
Tournament Director is authorized to effect those changes.
Any club that sponsors one or more Northern District Tournament and that
desires to change the type of any of their tournaments, must fill a
special form and submit the form to the Northern District Tournament
Director no later than December 1.
Any request to change the dates or type of any tournament arriving after
January 1, will be honored. However, the change will be effective for the
following year’s proposed schedule.
Example: Club ‘A’ submits a request to change the type or dates of one of
their tournaments for the 2007-2008 shuffling season. The request must
reach the Northern District Tournament Director no later than January 1,
2007. If the request arrives on January 2, 2007 or later, the change will
take effect with the Proposed Tournament Schedule for the 2008-2009
season.
The Northern District Tournament Director will provide each club with a
list of qualified Northern District Tournament Directors who are also
authorized to act as Directors for Northern District Tournaments. Any club
sponsoring Northern District Tournaments must make arrangements with one
of those Directors to be the Director for any of their Northern District
Tournament. The clubs must provide those names to the Northern District
Tournament Director.
11. If due to inclement weather, a Northern District tournament cannot be
completed on the three (3) scheduled days, that tournament will be
finished on the first (1st) available Saturday. In the event of another
rained out tournament, the first rained out tournament takes priority.
When this conflicts with a scheduled State or District meeting that
Saturday is considered as NOT AVAILABLE.
12. BERATING OF PARTNER: Players who berate/belittle their partners during
a Northern District Tournament should be brought to the attention of the
Tournament Director
.
13. Officers of the Northern District shall be remunerated for attendance
at authorized shuffleboard meetings as follows:
A. When a State called meeting is held outside the Northern District the
President and State Delegate shall each receive a maximum of $55.00 for
overnight accommodations. Gas allowance is paid by the FSA.
B. For all NDFSA meetings, officers who drive their own cars may receive a
mileage allowance of ten cents ($0.10) per mile upon presentation to the
Treasurer of a written note showing distance driven.

14 Any changes in the rules must be submitted in writing as a ten-day
notice. All ten-day notices will be accepted anytime during the year. At
the January meeting, ten-day notices will be read and a copy will be
provided to every Club President and all elected Board Members so they may
discuss those notices with their club members. Ten-day notices will not be
discussed at the January meeting. All ten-day notices will be discussed
and voted on at the March meeting. (March 13, 2004)
15. The Northern District Florida Shuffleboard Association shall be guided
by the By-Laws of the Florida Shuffleboard Association and the Northern
District.
16. Masters points shall be granted in all Northern District tournaments
as follows:
MAIN EVENT: 5-4-3-2
CONSOLATION: 2-1-1 No points for 4th place Consolation
17. An Amateur finishing first through fourth place in the Main Event of a
Northern District or State tournament will be awarded one (1) move-up
point. An Amateur finishing first through third place in the Consolation
round will be awarded one-half (1/2) move-up point.
18. The following cover compensation for Tournament Directors:
A. A person who wishes to become a tournament director may help a director
run a tournament and receive a one-time stipend of $25.00 to be paid by
the NDFSA Treasurer. However, if one (1) time is not considered enough,
the Northern District President may authorize more. This additional $25.00
is also to be paid by the NDFSA Treasurer.
B. In tournaments of 45 teams or more, a helper/assistant may be paid
$25.00 to assist a Tournament Director on the first day of the tournament.
A men and a Ladies tournament will be considered one tournament for the
purpose of this rule.
C. If a Tournament Director must return on the fourth day to complete a
tournament, the Tournament Director may request and receive an additional
$25.00. This is to be paid by the NDFSA Treasurer.
D. The maximum number of Tournament Director and helper/assistants, at any
one time, will not exceed two (2).
E. For any Northern District Tournament with sixteen (16) teams or less,
the Tournament Director will receive $50.00. (March 13, 2004)
19. The Keeper of Records shall receive two hundred fifty dollars
($250.00) per season for expenses.

20. The elected officers’ job descriptions and the rules to govern the
Northern District Masters Tournament shall be attached to the NDFSA
Standing Rules
